# Azul de Jagua (Jagua Blue) : A New K-CAPS Natural Colorant

Posted by [CapsCanada](https://blog.lyfegroup.com/author/capscanada) on Feb 20, 2025, 3:36:38 p.m.

At Lyfe Group, we are proud to introduce **Azul de Jagua or Jagua Blue**, an innovative **natural blue colorant now available in our K-CAPS® natural colorant empty HPMC capsules**.

## **The Story Behind Azul de Jagua (Jagua Blue) **

Azul de Jagua is derived from the Genipa americana fruit, commonly known as Jagua, which grows abundantly in Colombia’s biodiverse rainforests, particularly in regions like Antioquia, Cauca, Chocó and the Amazon basin. This fruit has been used for centuries by Indigenous communities for body painting, medicinal applications, and natural dyes.

However, for the first time, this Colombian resource is reaching international markets and is being exported as an FDA-certified natural colorant. Jagua Blue has now been officially recognized in the Codex Alimentarius, the international food safety and regulatory standard. This certification allows it to be used across food, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical, pet and cosmetic industries worldwide.

## **A Breakthrough in Natural Colorants**

For years, natural blue pigments have been rare in the food and supplement industry. Most available options were either synthetic or derived from [spirulina](https://blog.lyfegroup.com/natural-colorants-spirulina). Azul de Jagua changes the game by providing a stable, plant-based blue hue that meets the increasing consumer demand for clean-label, plant-derived ingredients.

This Colombian innovation is already being used in cosmetics, perfumery, and cleaning products, and now, for the first time, Lyfe Group is introducing it to nutraceutical and pharmaceutical applications through our K-CAPS® HPMC natural colored empty capsules.

## **Why use Jagua Blue in K-CAPS®?**

- Plant-Based & Sustainable – Extracted from Colombian Jagua fruit, this pigment aligns with natural and clean-label trends.
- A Unique Blue Hue – Unlike artificial dyes, Azul de Jagua offers a vibrant, naturally derived blue color
- Globally Recognized – opens doors to international markets.
- Now Available in [K-CAPS® HPMC Capsules](https://blog.lyfegroup.com/why-choose-k-caps-hpmc-capsules) – This Colombian natural colorant is brought into our vegetarian HPMC capsules for supplement and pharmaceutical applications.

## **Colombia’s Gift to the World**

For the first time, a colorant sourced from Colombia's biodiversity is being exported globally for use in pharmaceuticals, nutraceuticals, and cosmetics. Jagua Blue represents an opportunity to harness the richness of Colombian natural resources while promoting sustainable and ethical production.

From Colombia to the world, Jagua Blue is setting a new standard in natural colorants—and now, it’s available in Lyfe Group K-CAPS® HPMC Capsules!

**CapsCanada, a** [**Lyfe Group**](https://lyfegroup.com/) **company, contributes to a broader life sciences ecosystem that serves the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical industries.** Lyfe Group delivers value through high-performance empty capsule solutions, operational support, and global supply expertise, helping manufacturers accelerate product readiness and market reach.
